What Makes a Good Contractor Website?

A contractor website has about five seconds to answer three questions: what do you do, do you work here, and can I trust you. Everything else is secondary.

Immediate clarity

The top of the homepage should state the service, the service area, and how to reach you. Not a slogan. Not a stock photo of a handshake.

Real proof

Photos of your actual work, real reviews, licensing and insurance details, and the towns you serve. Genuine specifics outperform polished generalities every time.

A page per service

Someone searching for a roof repair should land on a roof repair page, not a services list. Dedicated pages convert better and give search engines something specific to rank.

Built for phones

Most visitors are on a phone. A tappable phone number, short forms, large text, and fast loading are not refinements — they are the requirements.

One obvious action

Call, or request a quote. Pick a primary action per page and repeat it. Sites offering five different next steps get fewer of all of them.

Speed and maintenance

A slow site loses visitors before it is seen, and an unmaintained site accumulates broken links, wrong hours, and expired SSL. The site is infrastructure, not a one-time project.
